What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural science and art used to promote overall health and well being. It is a simple and noninvasive  healing modality requiring no drugs, medications or special equipment. Reflexology is based on the principle that the  feet, hands and ears are microcosms (mini-maps) of all systems of the body.

How Does Reflexology Work?

Pressure applied to the feet generates a signal through the peripheral nervous system. Specific manual pressure to any of the microcosms stimulates the corresponding part (reflex) of the body as well as the nervous system. Focused stimulation of the reflexes helps release stagnant toxins, thereby reducing stress on the body. This in turn helps improve circulation, restore energy flow and vitality to all systems of the body and promote internal balance.

What are the Benefits of Reflexology?

The feet are our base and foundation, and since gravity pulls toxins downward towards the feet, it is beneficial to you and your feet if they are given regular care. Not only will you feel relaxed after a nice, warm foot soak and reflexology session, your health will also benefit. It helps  reduce stress and enhances circulation within the body, cleanses it of toxins and balances the whole system. In general terms the benefits of reflexology have to do with the reduction of stress. Because the feet and hands help set the tension level for the rest of the body they are an easy way to interrupt the stress signal and reset homeostasis,  the body's equilibrium.

Whether reflexology can benefit certain conditions and diseases in still under investigation. People with painful foot and hand problems may also benefit from reflexology.

A Typical Reflexology Session Reflexology sessions in general last from 30 minutes to an hour. It is a clothed session with only the removal of shoes  and socks as a requirement.

The session will then begin with a warm luxurious foot bath using a sea salt, either scented with aromatherapy or unscented. The reflexologist will use a chair and at times a table. She will also use oil or lotion. However, this is a tool  that is debated within the profession. Dry technique is common. Reflexologists use pressure, stretch and movement  to work through the foot methodically. The whole foot  should be worked in most circumstances.

The reflexologist should work within your comfort zone. Too much pressure can actually be harmful and could lead  to injury. Personal preference is something you should communicate with your reflexologist.

You should feel relaxation at the end of a session. How long that relaxation lasts is a good indicator of the effectiveness of the session. Make note of this, and tell your reflexologist your response to the session. This can be helpful information. Cost of a Session The fee for a one hour session is $55. You may also schedule a 90 minute session. A longer session will allow for the multiple areas to be worked on. Such as a hand and foot session. Hand and ear session.

Ear Candling or Coning

by Breanna Brown

Ear Candling

What is Ear Candling or Coning?

Ear coning is a safe, simple home remedy for gently removing excess wax and toxins from inside the ears. Long, tapered cones are inserted into the ears and lit. The smoke generated works to draw debris out of the ear by osmosis. The entire process is relaxing and noninvasive.

What Are The Cones Made Of?

The cones are made of strips of unbleached cotton dipped in a mixture of beeswax and extracts, oils and/or herbs. They look much like cotton candy cones. When we burn a cone, for safety purposes, it is wise not to burn the last few inches. We usually use two cones per ear during the treatment.

What is the History of Ear Coning?

The art of ear coning dates back for centuries, to the ancient Egyptian, Chinese, Tibetan, Aztec, Mayan and American Indian cultures. Cherokee, Mexican Indian and European healers interested in reviving the lost traditions still practice coning. German medical students are taught coning as a part of their medical practice. Ear cleaning has been practiced for at least five centuries by many cultures and is considered as necessary a part of personal hygiene as is tooth brushing.

How Does The Process Work?

As the cone burns, smoke moves the debris out of the ear. Osmosis (diffusion through a semi-permeable membrane  - e.g. skin) plays an important role as the smoke soothes  the sinus and nasal cavities. Excess earwax is moved through the ear canal into the cone. This is a very gentle and non-invasive process. Frequently participants appear to have just awakened or have a relaxed euphoric look.

What Can I Expect During and After the Session?

Most people are aware of some crackling and popping a s the candle is burned and the ear wax is being pulled out. Relax and enjoy the soothing influence of the experience. If you have excessive hearing loss, you might be more aware of the candle heat than an average hearing person as your feeling senses are more developed than a regular hearing person. Since we leave several

inches of candle left unburned, you have nothing to fear from the heat or flame. Our practitioner is also a Reflexologist and she will perform some Ear Reflexology  before and after the candling to loosen things up in and around the ear structures. This feels great and many  patients come just for the reflexology, without the candling.

After the session you may feel lightness in your head and noises may appear to be louder. While you adjust to your new level of hearing, you might want to put some organic cotton in your ears with a little ear oil or olive oil to soothe the ear canal. If you feel itching in the ears, you might want to use the oil or some hydrogen peroxide for a day or two after the session. The itching

will stop.

You might find your sinuses are draining and sinus headaches may decrease. This decrease occurs as the sinus cavities are soothed and plates of the skull return  to a natural position. Sinus headaches are often caused by a misalignment of the cranial bones. These cranial plates can become misaligned for a variety reasons  including: birth trauma; colds; toxins in the environment; and allergic reactions to the foods we eat, the clothing we wear, and the paraphernalia we use (e.g telephones).  Many people experience an improvement in hearing and a wider perception of tones. However, if you have a hearing loss due to bone loss or nerve damage, you may notice no improvement in your hearing though you may notice an improvement in some other areas.

What Will Come Out Of My Ears?

Most people think that all they have in their ears is ear wax. However, most difficulties are due to substances

other than wax. If you have a history of prescription drugs and/or poor diet, you will have large amounts  of a powdery substance emerge. If you're a farmer, what comes out of your ears may wiggle (worms), for a plasterer, old plaster dust and so on. What comes out of  your ears is determined by your external and internal

environment.

How Frequently Should I Have Coning Done?

For health, we suggest 3 conings, 3 to 7 days apart. It is suggested you cone in groups of three until you feel  complete. Once you have established a healthy relationship with your ears, it is appropriate to clean or have them cleaned 2 or 3 times a year.

How Will Coning Affect Me?

Coning starts a cleansing process which might have a variety of results. Some known benefits of coning include: the removal of ear debris from nerve endings; the detoxification of the sinus and lymph system; and the sharpening of mental functions, vision, hearing, smell, taste and color perception.

Please remember, as you detox (be it emotionally and/or physically), the toxins released have to go somewhere. Most people believe that their bowels and urinary tract are the sole avenues of elimination; the truth is, 70  percent of body toxins exit through the skin. Additional toxins are removed through the lymphatic system, some of which empty into the eustachian tubes. Ear coning pulls debris from these tubes as well as the sinus and tear duct cavities.

Question: Can I do ear candling on my own?

NO. Not under any circumstances. An observer is essential to have proper positioning of the ear candle and for protection. At the very least, they are essential to make sure you stay awake! Our therapist is trained and has performed this procedure on many patients.

Cost:?

The cost for an ear candling session is $55. This includes the use of 2 candles in each ear and a short ear reflexology session before and after the actual candling. You may schedule an appointment online with Breanna or you can call our office to set up an appointment..
